monday monday

This has been a very restorative weekend, what with the boys taking a mini-vacation to my mother's and David and I getting to poke around the house and about town on our own.

On Friday we went to dinner and a movie, enjoying watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix complete with snacks, hand-holding and our favorite seats. On Saturday we watched The Prestige at home, and it was intriguing and well done. Snuggling up on the couch together and getting to point and talk was nice, and well overdue.

After a bit of running about to the hardware store and the Tractor Supply Company, we came home with supplies for a fence, ideas for a water garden and (at least on my part) a powerful need for a nap. I woke to find David extricating the roses from the grass and weeds that have dominated them in the past few weeks. He also dusted them and hopefully they will survive. Pretty Lady surprised us both with the blooms she had been keeping to herself, and I hope to see more of them soon.

The rose of sharon shrub that i had frankly given up on decided to bloom after all.

In the vegetable garden, the tomatoes are doing well, as is the basil, dill and gfarlic. The asparagus made a nice showing early on, and is of course now long since done. We pretty much took a loss on everything else, but have quite a number of ideas on what to do in the coming year. I'm looking forward to potatoes and beans and beets aplenty.

More than anything, the weekend left me feeling very connected and restored. I'm looking forward to the coming week and remain optimistic about my recent application to the City of Salem. If that doesn't come to anything, there's always contract work.
