Information Society

 No, not the band.

The new syllabus just dropped, and I'm looking forward to class. It doesn't start until Tuesday, but I'm reading over the syllabus in advance, and I really think I'm going to like this class. Be warned: Lots of rants and raves about information and its role in society are headed your way.

Two of the books I'm most looking forward to reading are one that are already on my To Be Read bookshelf: Surveillance Capitalism and Palaces for the People.

The odds of me ending up at Lightmorning by the time this is over are being boosted by the War on Books, both Angelo's shop and the actual war on actual books. Don't get me started, or, if you do, settle in with popcorn and tea.

It's going to be a long, hot summer, y'all.

Reading Log: Left Hand of Darkness

Right out of the gate, Le Guin throws down the gauntlet:
Page 1: "Truth is a matter of the imagination. The soundest fact may fail or prevail in the style of its telling: like that singular organic jewel of our seas, which grows brighter as one woman wears it and, worn by another, dolls and goes to dust. Facts are no more solid, coherent, round, and real then pearls are. But both are sensitive."
