What a lovely Independence Day.
In the morning we doled out new fishing rods to the boys, packed up canoe, spiderman PFDs and tackle boxes and went fishing in Craig Creek. Can you believe it -- I coaught four fish! I was totally tickled. David and Ethan caught as well, and even though Graeme didn't catch anything on his spiffy new Batman pole, he certainly did have a good time, as did we all.
Afterward, a nap was in order by the Big Mamma. I snoozed while the men-folk went to the spring and fetched more water, then we all ate dinner at home and had a most impressive fireworks display - the glory went on for nearly an hour. By the time we rolled into our beds, we were all blissfully exhausted.
Today, the boys and I did some post-holiday cleaning up and cooked a fine spaghetti dinner that we ate in front of the television (a rare treat) while we watched Independence Day, which I had never seen before. It was quite action-packed, with just the right balance between humor and somber. I'll be saying "I could've been at a barbecue!" for quite some time, I feel certain.
Tomorrow we are excercising our independence by volunteering at the local library.
